It's that time again - October 31, 2007
Once again, it’s fall. And like every year at this time, I am looking at moving. The reason for moving this year isn’t because I am getting a new job or because I don’t like where I live but that David is moving to Hawaii. That’s just a little too far to share an apartment and the rent on a two bedroo m place is way too much for one person, so I’m having to move out.

Things I like about the new place - December 9, 2006

Moved, etc. - November 24, 2006
Well it has been a very long time since I last updated things here. In the last week and a half, a whole lot of stuff has happened. First off, I moved into the new place at Clocktower last Wednesday. David and I rented a truck to move all our furniture and large boxes. It took the entire day (as in, we were still moving my furniture in around 9pm) and we got a $100 parking ticket because of it, but we got it done. It was a horrible chore involving walking several miles and lifting everything we own at least four times. But we got it done. With this stuff moved, I was able to stay in the new place that first night. I got all the other essentials like kitchen things, clothes, and bathroom stuff moved in fairly quickly too. Most of the nights since then have involved trips to and from Royal Crest with my car full of junk. I almost have it finished now - just a couple more trips plus cleaning and I’ll be all moved out.

Moving day is here - November 14, 2006
Tomorrow is moving day around here. I’m mostly packed and ready to start hauling things off. The plan is to head up to Clocktower tomorrow morning to pick up keys, inspect the place, and take some pictures. Then we’re going to go pick up a rental truck and carry all our furniture and boxed up things. Hopefully by evening, the bulk of my stuff will be at the new apartment and the old apartment will only be what’s left.

Packing - October 30, 2006
This past weekend, I pulled a bunch of boxes and plastic tubs out of storage to start packing up my apartment in anticipation of moving soon. I also cleared out a big space in my bedroom to stack up packed boxes and things that didn’t need to go in boxes. My strategy here is that I will fill these tubs and boxes with things, drive the boxes over to the new place, unpack them there, and bring the empty boxes back to be refilled. So, I started looking around for things to pack up because I want to get this done before the last minute. After a while of looking around, it hit me: with my plan for reusing boxes, there’s really nothing I can pack right now. The first things I will want to move is stuff I’ll need in the new place, but those are things I need now as well. So I can’t very well pack them up. However if I pack up junk I’m not using right now, then the first things I’ll be moving are things I don’t need. I guess I will just wait.

So much stuff - September 25, 2006
My years of accumulating junk are catching up with me. Since I’m going to be moving at the end of the year, I need to start decreasing the amount of stuff I’ve got so there’s less to carry around. It’s times like this where I realize that I have a lot more junk than I need, especially considering how often some of it gets used. Over the past couple days, I have been working on a list of things to get rid of either by trashing, giving away, or selling. So far, trashing is winning.

I want to quite the apartment! - September 19, 2006
I went and quit the apartment this morning. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. First I stood around while everyone talked on the phone, then I filled out a form. It only asked a couple basic questions, like why I’m moving and when I’m moving and what my forwarding address is. For a reason, I checked the “price” and “adding/losing roommate” boxes. I thought for a moment about checking the “road construction” box, but I didn’t think I could make something up if they asked me why. Too bad I probably won’t be getting any money back from this, since I don’t remember there being a security deposit when I signed the lease.
Now just ten more quick weeks and I am out of here.

Moving season - September 16, 2006
As I previously wrote, my rent is going way up at the end of November when my current lease ends. I don’t really like paying $893 a month for this place, and I like the idea of paying $1019 even less. David is in a similar situation, and his lease is also up in November. So we put our heads together and decided maybe it would be time to do the roommate thing again and save some bucks.

Overpriced - September 11, 2006
I just checked the mail and found my apartment renewal notice in the box. Here’s the exciting part:
Our records indicate your lease is schedule to expire on November 30, 2006. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to renew your lease with us at considerable cost savings As you are aware, rising cost of everyday consumer services (including fuel, utilities, etc.) is an enormous concern for us all. To help contain necessary rent increases, we would like to offer you the following renew options:
Upon renewal of your lease for 12 months your new rental rate will increase from $893.00 to $1019.00.
If you sign your new 12-month lease prior to September 22, 2006, your renewal rate increase will be reduced! Your new monthly payment will be $989.00
Is it any wonder I’m looking to move in with a friend at the end of my lease and cut down on costs?

Back from the dead - November 21, 2004
The move went pretty well - I’m now settled into my apartment in Nashua and have even started that new job thing (Red Hat for anyone who didn’t already know). On the bangmoney.org front, Speakeasy got DSL installed pretty quickly. There are still some name service problems floating around but I’m hoping those get ironed out within another day or two. Until then, access will be limited to people using nameservers with the right information.

On the move - November 1, 2004
It’s been just about a year now, so it’s time for me to move again. I’m off to Nashua, NH this time. As such, bangmoney.org is going to be down for a couple weeks while I move and DSL gets hooked up. It should be going down around 11/4 and I estimate at most three weeks of downtime. Speakeasy has been contacted and is working on setting up DSL for me at the new place, so it’s just a matter of time. Of course, this means all projects, mail, etc. will be unavailable for a little while. Here’s hoping it goes smoothly.
