Laundry room flood
When I got up this morning, it was raining. It rained all day long, sometimes quite heavily. Well since there was no possibility of doing anything outside, I decided I would start packing for that move I coming up in a few weeks. Since I am a semi-professional mover, I bought a bunch of thick plastic tubs before my trip to New Hampshire. I also saved a couple of the nicer boxes when I was finished with them. They all went into a storage closet downstairs in the laundry room. So today I went downstairs to retrieve these things so I could start packing.
The first thing I noticed when I went into the laundry room was that there was water all over the floor. Now, the laundry room is directly underneath my apartment. It’s arranged as a small room first with all the storage closets, then a room with the laundry machines, and then a hall to the other side of the building. Off the laundry room is a door to the rubbish room which is where we dump all our trash. Off this room is a door to the outside. I noticed that the water got deeper and deeper as I got close to the door to the rubbish room until it was perhaps a quarter inch deep. I opened the door and saw there was even more water in the rubbish room and that it was pouring in through a hole in the door to the outside.
Of course I went and called the apartment office after getting my boxes out. When I went out to my window to look, it was obvious what had happened. The drain outside was clogged up with leaves and junk, so all the rain throughout the day had pooled up outside into a little lake. This lake just happened to run right into the building and was able to flood in through the hole in the door. I don’t think they did anything more than unclog the drain, so the floor downstairs is still soaking.
That’s about all the excitement that’s going on over here. Hey, it was this story or talk about how crazy work has been the past several days. And who wants to talk about work on a weekend?
